Theme:   Challenge Accepted: Tackling The Climate Crisis

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM CHAPTER PRESIDENT

On behalf of 2023-24 ASHRAE Society President ,Ginger Scoggins I welcome all stakeholders of ASHRAE Nigeria Chapter- our eminent Life members, Associate members and student members alike to a new Society year, which started off on July 1st, 2023. The Society's theme for the year is

"Challenge Accepted: Tackling the climate crisis".

As an integral part of the Society, we shall advance the cause of the theme through commitment to drive awareness, Technical Session conversations and knowledge sharing as our contribution towards building a sustainable and decarbornized environment.

Chapter committees have been constituted by the Exco and the BoG and all committee Chairs have been charged to hit the ground running. Our techni sessions which have recorded tremendous success in the past will be further strengthened , ASHRAE Distinguished Lecture (DL) series and Global Training Center facilitated trainings on HVAC Fundamentals and Applications are planned for the year in Lagos, in addition to regular Technical sessions.

We shall continue to support the society's Research funding needs through donation to Research Promotion(RP) committee. Our RP goal for the year is  5,000USD minimum as a chapter. Likewise our membership goal is 80active members by the end of the Society year of which female members will constitute at least 10%. A new Committee - women in ASHRAE (WIA) has been constituted to work at achieving this. the "R" in ASHRAE- Refrigeration will receive due attention to open up oportunities for those of us in the sector. Mentoring of our student branches, through provision of resources would be strengthened as well chartering more student branches. Additional two(2) branches shall be targeted for the year.

The good news from Ghana Secton is that members are ready for upgrade to Chapter status. We shall collaborate effectively with Ghana Section to ensure the upgrade is achieved this year.

Now that the scourge of Covid is over, we should begin to interact in persons again. Our meetings and technical sessions shall alternate between physical and virtual.

Finally, I urge for participation of members at the chapter's events, be it physical or virtual forum. Meetings shall be business-like and would not extend beyond the stipulated time. It's our collaborative efforts that can grow our chapter to yield membership benefits to us all.

                                   "HAPPY NEW SOCIETY YEAR"

Ade Oyenekan

ASHRAE Nigeria President (2023-24)
